The Ultimate Katoomba / Leura Wedding Itinerary

The Blue Mountains is an absolutely idyllic place to get married. Totally surrounded by nature, you are in one of the most scenic spots in all of New South Wales to say ‘I-do’ - and understandably you want everything to be perfect. There is so much more to celebrate here, and luckily we can take you beyond the wedding day. After all, everyone knows a wedding is a three-day party!

Below is our helpful guide to get you started on your wedding planning journey. The Local Compass highly recommends calling venues in advance for bookings (especially caterers or venues hosting your pre-drinks or recovery.) You don’t want to miss out!

Day 1 – Day Before the Wedding

Arrival – Brunch or Lunch

For a relaxed yet delicious all day breakfast in Katoomba, household name Pomegranate is not to be missed. For something a bit more fancy serving both breakfast and lunch, you can head to The Lookout, Echo Point for some stunning views of the Blue Mountains to kick off your weekend. For a very special treat, you and the girls can go to Sorensen’s Glasshouse in Leura.

Or, perhaps you’ve organised an Air BnB for the bridal party and are looking to put on some welcome nibbles. In that case, you can pick up a selection of truly divine goodies at Leura Gourmet, not to mention their killer selection of salads and pies if cheese and nibbles don’t quite hit the spot.

Optional Afternoon Activity – Spa and Golf

The Blue Mountains has some of the most luxurious day spas going. Aqua Ignis is just a 15 minute drive from Katoomba and is a chic and affordable steam, sauna and bathhouse and is the perfect way to treat yourself and relax with your girls pre-wedding.

For the guys? A hit of golf might be the perfect pre-cursor to the wedding while the girls are treating themselves. There are three great options for a hit on the green in the Blue Mountains, Leura Golf Club, Wentworth Falls Country Club and the Blackheath Golf Club.

Evening – Welcome Drinks

Welcome drinks are just that, a place where your guests who may have travelled a fair distance can get together and be treated with food and bubbles. If you’re looking for the perfect space to host your event The Lookout Echo Point and The Bowery have indoor and outdoor spaces and are well versed in hosting parties.

If you just feel like something low-key at the air bnb for your bridal party, legendary café 8 Things also caters from their vintage trailer for a minimum of 30 people.

Want something a little more relaxed at the accommodation? Rustico Pizza in Katoomba is your wallet friendly option.

For more inspiration see our Blackheath itinerary, which is only a 15 minute drive from Katoomba and Leura.

Day 2 – Wedding Day

Morning – Breakfast

Getting hair and make up done is BIG work, and the girls and guys need to remain fuelled throughout the day. Thankfully there are no shortage of options! One of the best bakeries around, Black Cockatoo Bakery, is an absolute must. Call ahead and see if you can organise a special order for you and your bridal party, otherwise make sure you get their early for a selection of sweet and savoury pastries as well as killer coffee.

If you’ve got breakfast sorted but are after some serious coffee (and we’re talking serious) take down those orders and head to the best coffee in town, Cassiopeia.

While the girls might be staying put in those makeup and hair chairs for a while, the guys might want to keep themselves fed – we recommend Pomegranate or 8 things for the perfect pre-wedding brekky.

Midday / Evening – Wedding Time!

This one is all you, have fun!

Late night – Keep the party going

Unfortunately there aren’t many options in Katoomba or Leura for pubs open past midnight, however if your accommodation is near Blackheath (a 15 minute drive from Katoomba) The New Ivanhoe Hotel is open till two in the morning, Monday to Saturday.

Day 3 – Recovery

Midday

Who doesn’t love a recovery party? Nurse the hangover in the sunshine with your guests at The Bowery, or travel a mere 15 minutes to Blackheath towards The New Ivanhoe Hotel, an art deco pub with an absolutely delightful outdoor space where you and your guests can gather, relax and unwind.

If you’re after something a bit fancier, Kyah Hotel in Blackheath have many spaces that could be perfect for your recovery event depending on how many people you expect to attend.

Evening - Optional hotel stay

Hosting a wedding is exhausting stuff, and the one and half hour trip back to Sydney can (understandably) seem a bit too much. If the bride and groom just wish for a night to themselves to decompress after what will be a massive few days, you’ve got some incredible options. Our favourites are the Hydro Majestic, Lilianfels Resort and Spa, Kyah and The Carrington.

There is SO much more to The Blue Mountains area than meets the eye - or makes this list. If you’re after more inspiration check out our other guides for the best recommendations in the area guaranteed to make your wedding day feel that extra bit special.
