What is the Local Compass?
The Local Compass is your go-to guide for all things regional Australia, with a passion for highlighting the very best this country has to offer away from the big smoke.
The world is changing, people both young and old are looking inward rather than outward when it comes to their next holiday or place to settle as a family. In this post-COVID era, many are moving out of the city or choosing to travel to country towns, realising there are often secret gems, beaches, cafe’s and experiences to be had only a few hours drive from their front door that rival the beauty you might find overseas.
Australia really does have so much to offer.
While our main focus at this stage is on the towns south of Sydney, New South Wales, we have an appetite to highlight all country towns. If it is regional, there is always going to be a place for it on The Local Compass.
This is not a hub just for visitors, but also for locals. We support local business or people finding their passion in their home town. We want to highlight you, support you and help you.

You are a local living in The Southern Highlands, The Blue Mountains or along the South Coast and have a recommendation you would like to share.
You are a local living in The Southern Highlands, The Blue Mountains or along the South Coast and run a business you would like to share (new or established). This can include anything from promoting your new cafe, the shop you run, your landscaping business, or offering your tutoring skills.
You have an event coming up such as a market, festival, workshop, show or dinner. Please include the following information: event time, day, location, price (if applicable). A photo/photos would be appreciated in your submission as would any other relevant information you can think of. We kindly ask for 2 weeks notice at a minimum if possible.
If any of the above apply to you as someone who lives in a regional area in New South Wales which isn’t The Southern Highlands, The Blue Mountains or The South Coast please still email us and submit - especially if you are a small business! Our mission is to highlight all regional Australia and while we need to start small and focused, our mission statement remains the same. There is a place to highlight all country businesses on The Local Compass.
