The Ultimate Blackheath Wedding Itinerary

The Blue Mountains is a highly sought-after place to get married for a reason. Surrounded by nature, the Blue Mountains is home to some of the most gorgeous wedding venues in New South Wales - but a wedding is often so much more than just the Big Day. Brides and Grooms also need to think about pre-wedding drinks, recovery parties, and sometimes caterers for both.

If this is you don’t feel overwhelmed, we have you covered.

If your wedding party and guests are staying in or around Blackheath have a read of our itinerary to help get you started on your wedding planning journey. The Local Compass highly recommends calling venues in advance for bookings (especially caterers or venues hosting your pre-drinks or recovery). You don’t want to miss out!

Day 1 – Day Before the Wedding

Arrival – Brunch or Lunch

So you’ve arrived in the Blue Mountains, it’s not quite time to check-in and you feel like a spot of breakfast? The Hounslow Café is a gorgeous little spot tucked away in the arcade, but the food is absolutely not to be missed. If you’re after more a fancier, brunch/lunch vibe you should go to Sorensen’s Glasshouse, just a short drive away in Leura.

Or, perhaps you’ve organised an Air BnB for the bridal party and are looking to put on some welcome nibbles. In that case, you can pick up a selection of truly divine goodies such as cheese, salads and other delicious treats at Little Piggy Deli.

Optional Afternoon Activity – Spa and Golf

Blackheath has one of the most luxurious (and affordable) day spas in all the Blue Mountains in Aqua Ignis, and is a perfect pre-wedding treat if you are looking for a nice relaxing activity before the festivities begin.

For the guys? A hit on the green with the groomsmen is often a perfect pre-wedding activity. There are three great options in the Blue Mountains, Leura Golf Club, Wentworth Falls Country Club and the Blackheath Golf Club.

Evening – Welcome Drinks

Welcome drinks are just that, a moment where you can welcome your guests who may have travelled far and wide to watch you say ‘I-do’. If you’re looking for perfect spaces to host your event that are central, The Lookout Echo Point has a wonderful outdoor area and are well versed in hosting parties.

For something more chill and edgy, The New Ivanhoe Hotel is a fabulous art deco pub with a sensational beer garden. Your other go-to option if you are not in to big welcome parties and are after something smaller and more intimate with just a handful of your loved ones is dinner at Blaq – it will set the tone for a truly special few days.

Want something a little more relaxed at the accommodation for just you and the bridal party? Zoe’s Pizza is your wallet friendly option.

For more inspiration see our Katoomba and Leura itinerary, which is only a 15 minute drive from Blackheath.

Day 2 – Wedding Day

Morning – Breakfast

Getting hair and make up done is BIG work, and all the girls and guys need to remain fuelled throughout the day. Thankfully there are no shortage of options! One of the best bakeries around is just a 15 minute drive away in Katoomba, Black Cockatoo Bakery, and is an absolute must. Call ahead and see if you can organise a special order for you and your bridal party, otherwise make sure you get their early for a selection of sweet and savoury pastries as well as killer coffee.

While the girls might be staying put in those makeup and hair chairs for a while, the guys might want to keep themselves fed – we recommend Pomegranate or 8 things (both also in Katoomba) for the perfect pre-wedding brekky.

Midday / Evening – Wedding Time!

This one is all you, have a blast!

Late night – Keep the party going

Good news for your guests staying in Blackheath who are partial to a late night bevy, The New Ivanhoe Hotel is open till two in the morning, Monday to Saturday.

Day 3 – Recovery

Midday

Who doesn’t love a recovery party? Nurse the hangover in the sunshine with your guests at The Bowery in Katoomba or The New Ivanhoe Hotel which has a fabulous outdoor space where you and your guests can gather, relax and unwind.

If you’re after something a bit fancier, Kyah Hotel in Blackheath have many spaces that could be perfect for your recovery event depending on how many people you expect to attend.

Evening - Optional hotel stay

Hosting a wedding is exhausting stuff, and the one and half hour trip back to Sydney can (understandably) seem a bit too much. If the bride and groom just wish for a night to themselves to decompress after what will be a massive few days, you’ve got some incredible options. Our favourites in and around Blackheath are Kyah, Parklands Country Garden & Lodges and The Boutique Hotel.

There is SO much more to The Blue Mountains area than meets the eye - or makes this list. If you’re after more inspiration check out our other guides for the best recommendations in the area guaranteed to make your wedding day feel that extra bit special.
