Spend a day at Bundanon

If you’re planning to visit the South Coast and looking for things to do for the day, then contemporary art gallery Bundanon needs to make it to your list. One of the most unique and special art galleries in New South Wales, it is one of the best things to do when near the Jervis Bay area whether you’re travelling as a family, with a partner or simply a big group of friends.

Bundanon is many things; an art museum, a wildlife sanctuary, a place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Sydney and of course, one of the key attractions you might not have heard of.

So if you’re planning to travel to the South Coast and are looking for an art gallery to visit, a unique place to stay or simply for something memorable to do, then this needs to be at the top of our list.

Here is how we would spend a day at Bundanon.

Your day at Bundanon

There are two key attractions at Bundanon, the Art Museum and the Homestead Site. Before making your way there, we suggest you look up the program of What’s On at both destinations and familiarise yourself with their program as it’s not just exhibitions for adults, but there are often concerts, public talks, workshops, guided tours and plenty of kid friendly activities where your little ones can sit an enjoy. This way you know what’s in store for you!

From there, The Local Compass suggests your first stop to be at the Art Museum where you can take your time wandering around the incredible contemporary gallery, before heading to the Ramox Cafe for some lunch where Executive Chef Douglas Innes-Will ensures the menu rotates seasonal with quality produce sourced from the surrounding Shoalhaven region.

If you are with a big group of friends we suggest you book yourself a table and enjoy the shared lunch option. Bookings are $25 per person for four or more guests, or $35 including a glass of wine or beer.

After your long lunch, head over to The Homestead and Arthur Boyd’s Studio where you can take a look at the now restored home and art studio of famed artist Arthur Boyd and his wife Yvonne. Inside the homestead you’ll find original works by Arthur Boyd, but the magic is outside as well as in.

The homestead is located on 1,000 hectare wildlife sanctuary where you can walk through the english style gardens, venture down one of the bushwalking tracks and explore the iconic scenery.

You will end your afternoon at the Homestead kitchen where you will find afternoon tea, homemade cakes, soups and warm beverages.
