Best pubs along The South Coast

Nothing hits quite like a schooner, a chicken parmi and a beer garden on a Saturday afternoon in Australia. Pubs are for relaxed dinners, the beach goers making their way up from the surf in bare feet and the group of friends looking for somewhere to watch the footy with a bite and a pint. Pubs are a mainstay in Aussie ‘relaxed’ culture, and nowhere is more laidback than the Australian South Coast.

However, while to scene might be laidback, the dedication to good food is not.

If you’re down The South Coast and looking for the perfect feed, here is our list of the best pubs from Berry to Narooma.

The Grand Hotel - Kiama

The Grand Hotel Kiama is an institution. Just 5 minutes from the beach and Kiama’s famous Blow Hole, this old school pub ticks all the boxes. Some highlights are their Taco Tuesday’s, $20 schnitzels on Thursdays, live music every Friday and Saturday and their $30 Sunday Roasts.

The Friendly Inn - Kangaroo Valley

The Friendly Inn might not be the fanciest pub going, but boy does it have character. It’s one of the oldest pubs in the region and is all heart. Their stellar beer garden, which has a covered play area for kids, is perfect for small and big groups alike. Be sure to check out their ‘whats on’ guide as they often play host to festivals, gigs and farmers markets.

The Berry Hotel - Berry

The Berry Hotel, in the heart of Berry, is all country charm - but their menu is seriously modern and elevated. Berry, while near the coast, is the perfect destination for those cooler months. In saying this be sure to head to the Berry Hotel on a Sunday for their $25 Sunday roast and Happy Hour cocktails from 2 - 5 pm (not to mention the live music!).

The Huskisson Hotel - Jervis Bay

Affectionately known as ‘the Husky’, the Huskisson Hotel is the epitome of Aussie casual culture, sitting so close to the beach you can almost taste it. Don’t be fooled by the chill vibes, the menu is extensive and boasts some of the freshest, local seafood alongside traditional pub grub. If you and your mates plan on getting a bit rowdy, there is courtesy bus that leaves every hour from 7 until close Fridays and Saturdays that stops at multiple drop off in locations close by.

If you’re after something more intimate, downstairs from the pub is the Waterfront Bar where you can hang out on the terrace or take in the bay view.

Bud’s Tavern - Jervis Bay

Bud’s Tavern in Huskisson is a proudly family owned and operated old school pub, serving only patrons who are 18 years and older (sorry, no kids allowed here!). The interiors are still very much reminiscent of the 80’s, cozy and inviting, and it’s the perfect place to kick back with your mates, have a pint and watch the game. But if you’re thinking the food here is all steak and schnitzel, you’d be wrong. Their menu rivals that of some of the best in the biz and has a little something for everyone.

The Milton Hotel - Mollymook

The Milton Hotel might look like your average local, but this is no ordinary pub. This old tap house was restored by local families only to be turned it into a one hatted kitchen and a craft brewery on site. Despite the elevated food selection, this is still a pub at its core, with a place for kids to play, a deck to drink beer on and an offering of Sunday family meals.

Lynch’s - Narooma

Originally built in 1895, Lynch’s is one of the oldest and most historic buildings in Narooma and is everything you might expect from a great local pub…with a twist. This classic establishment caught the eye of many Sydney travellers, and so naturally hospitality giant Merivale came knocking. Now Lynch’s is serving up traditional pub classics with that Merivale flair, and it does not disappoint.
